House of Cards by Mahortarin M., 803

House of Cards

Riots arise from dusk to dawn

Those lost lives, forever gone

Multiple shots, wound after wound

A house of cards collapses soon

Crowds of people roll in like waves

Holding signs and shouting names

Should’ve protected the people’s needs

Should’ve avoided Maycomb’s usual disease

Built up tall, frail and thin

The house of cards comes caving in

The past relived once again

“Hearts must change”, it must come to an end

All the cards, scattered around

All our sins, cover the ground

The amount of damage, we cannot erase
Until the cards leave this place

  1. Thank you for sharing your poem with us : )
It took me a couple of rereads to compile my understanding of what exactly this house of cards represented.

And speaking of Maycomb’s Usual Disease, a song for you all:

It’s called “Blind to the Illness” by Shara Nova
