Chairs are a staple of our life. You see them everywhere. You see them in houses, schools, even in restaurants! You see different types of chairs now like stools, gaming chairs, or high chairs. Every chair is designed in a different way that sets it apart from other chairs and fulfills the purpose that it was made for. However, it didn’t always be that way.
Chairs were used for thousands of years and had a different role back then and were typically used to show authority or dominance like a queen or a king’s throne. This is why the person who is the administrative head at a college or university is called the “chairman” or “chairwomen”. Also, the earliest chairs were in Egypt and only approximately 10 inches tall. They were made of wood that were carved and was covered with cloth for aesthetic appeal. What did people sit on without a chair if it was reserved for important people? Well, most people sat on chests or benches (technically not considered a chair; just a long seat), until the 16th century came along and chairs were more common. From thereon, chairs have shaped design and have become better to the modern chairs we know today. Straight erect back, arm rests, and 4 legs.
Chairs are a modern miracle due to its multiple variations and its great, thought out design. Each chair is design for a specific use. For example, massage chairs are used to relieve stress by massaging you. Gaming chairs are used to put yourself in a comfortable position but also being able to play your favorite game. Ergonomic chairs are shaped to each person and are made to fit you, such as armrest height, how high you are relative to the ground, etc. Bean bags are low on the ground and if you’re of large size, you can just plop on em. In the end, chairs are the best. They’re used for various things and are well thought out.
Amazing work Jeff, I always expect the best from you and you never cease to amaze.
