Avalanche, a poem by Freda D., 806

Flakes are floating in the air

Bright light in the darkest hour

The whole world’s asleep tonight

Unaware of the beautiful view

Snow falls white onto the ground

Covering us in coats of white

Crystals floating in the air

Pureness breaking by the dawn

An ephemeral phenomenon

Destination seen but journey lost

Stay inside to flee the cold

Exit but with meaning gone

Untainted by the dirt

For a fleeting moment

Appreciated for a while

Till innocence is lost

Falling snow under the crescent moon

From clouds to air to human ground

An epiphany achieved in the ice

Falls away as the flowers bloom.
